The american dream became the american nightmare.

Nice places for the series "world without men" but should be a nice place to work.

Maybe they can knit covers for toilet paper like is famous here in Germany. With wool ball or camouflaged as skirt for Barbie

This is what it looks like when shareholder value becomes more important than building quality cars.

Exactly. Detroits problems aren's due to "socialists", it's due to companies feeling entitled to sell their products instead of actually being competitive.

Had they picked good old-fashioned capitalists instead of "managers" to run these companies, this could have been easily avoided.

It's like with liberty and security - if you sacrifice competitiveness for shareholder value, you will lose both in the end.

Don't forget the role the union (UAW) has played in the demise of the American car industry.

That's the moment, Henry Ford would like to press the "like"-button :D He wasn't a friend of any union and did what he could to keep it out. That's what I've heard yesterday

Shareholder value is like gun control.

No shareholder likes bankrupted companies, but many functionaries aka managers got value from shareholders even the company was made bankrupted

It's not simply about socialists. Socialist countries usually don't have many capitalists but many functionaries. Many big companies today are not owned by capitalists any more, but run by many mangagers.

True. And there's a difference in management style when you know that "if you screw up, you get a golden parachute and move on to the next lucrative job" (manager) versus "if you screw up, the company you built and own goes belly-up" (capitalist).

"Shareholder value is like gun control."

HOW? If the Big Three had continued building quality products, they would have continued to generate the returns that made their stocks the darlings of pension fund managers and small investors. Instead, they paid those managers to cut corners instead of incorporate quality, continued building gas-sucking boats that fell apart while VW sold and brilliantly marked an intelligent alternative. Then Japan rapidly developed efficient, reliable and, eventually, very attractive vehicles while Detroit gave us vinyl roofs, opera lamps and "rich, Corinthian leather."

And Detroit's fundamental industry began to fail; its Democrat leadership continued feeding the masses at the public trough and the entire mass imploded from entropic doom.
