Hei!

I bought an old target rifle last fall.

Markings say Imman Meffert Sulh. Proofed for black powder only and chambered in 8.15x46R.

Chambering is not marked but I made cerrosafe casting of the chamber and 8.15 it is.

I plan to compete in nordic black powder shooting event where aperture sights are allowed. Match is 13 rounds fired, prone at 100m.

Rifle has aperture rear sight but no front tunnel.

I uploaded photos of the rifle to dropbox:

(Will upload more photos as I find them)

Does anyone have photos on what type front sight tunnels and inserts/sights in the tunnels were used?

I'll try to find a period correct tunnel, or make one if possible.

Thanks, alter_Opa. That site truly has a lot of info.

Seems those rifles use aperture rear sight and open tunnel or V front sight. I found only one photo of actual tunnel front sight when I searched the internet last night.

At feuerbixler website there is story about modern rifle that has tunnel front sight but I understood that that rifle is not allowed in your competitions?

Another thing, that site has reloading tips with Vihtavuori N110 powder. That is smokeless. We compete with blackpowder loads but would be easier if one could train with smokeless loads.

Unfortunately the rifle only has blackpowder proofmarks. Or do you shoot smokeless regardless?

My rear aperture has apparently replaceable center inserts. Haven´t found a photo of those yet. I can make something that works but if it could be period corret at the same all the better.

Yes, I tested different loads last fall and full dose of Swiss #2 or #3 seems to work. Not well enough to win matches but getting better.

Our (Finland) national match is in three weeks so need to get shooting :)

Got tip that a cardboard wad behind bullet improves accuracy (at least when shot long range, +300m or something)

I forced a couple of .354" lead RB´s to barrel from chamber end. One bit deeper than other.
Major diameter seems to be .314" and boring diameter .304". Very thin riflings there.

I have three different bullet molds;

RCBS 82024, .32-170-FN

NOE 314456 122gr FN

Hensel .316 170

Shooting BP requires washing the gun after shooting, shooting smokeless doesn´t so...
