Just an interesting read straight from Florida - first they offer to pay him $250 per AR-15 lower then drop it to $17. Given that you can bankrupt the PD by buying a lower for less than $100 and selling it to the man.....

Anyway - why should you decide to sell your private firearms to the government at all?

To me, this seems to be a rather stupid idea.

Not at all - the term "buyback" is just completely wrong since the firearms did not really originate from the government. The "civilian marksmanship program" is a buyback by the people since the firearms end up in the hands who originally paid for them.

 

But coming back to the actual transaction. An AR-lower costs approximately $80 on sale, a little less in bulk. The US-government considers these a "firearm", even if it is a stripped lower. If they want to buy those at 300% of the original price - be my guest! They are no deducting from the total amount of firearms and are not getting anything of historical or sentimental value.
