Humboldt Park has highest 2010 homicide toll

.Tracy Swartz posted June 10, 2010 at 7:00 a.m. | no comments .Humboldt Park has seen three homicides in the last week, including a double homicide, which brought its 2010 homicide total to 15 deaths, the most of any community area, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.

Two men, ages 27 and 28, were shot to death Tuesday in the 3600 block of West Ohio Street, police said. A 15-year-old was shot to death last week in the 4200 block of West Thomas Avenue.

RedEye determined all of Humboldt Park's homicides so far this year were gunshot deaths. Humboldt Park's homicide toll represents about 8 percent of the 183 homicides recorded so far this year, as of Wednesday afternoon, RedEye found.

Meanwhile on Wednesday, a double homicide was logged in Grand Boulevard, officials said. Citywide, gunshot deaths were recorded in Auburn Gresham, Belmont Cragin, Calumet Heights, Englewood, Irving Park, the Near West Side, South Chicago, South Shore and West Garfield Park in the last week, RedEye determined.

Sixteen homicides have been recorded citywide so far in June, RedEye found. Police recorded 46 homicides in June last year, RedEye determined.
